Hey Guys!!
We starting the new year with a new segment “Creative Spotlight”.
This is a segment where I get to interview young creatives like me, Lol. Todays world is full of people tryna achieve on their own but heyy the sky is big enough for us all, we need to learn to pull each other up.
I’m not sure how often this will be done but stick with me.
So let’s begin shall we?

The first featured creative would have to be one of the people responsible for getting me ending 2015 turnt..
See interview below.

1. Tell us about yourself.
My full name is Chukwunta Chimezie Nicholas (so long a name lol) and my stage name is Nick Mez fondly called weyrey (creative madness). I’m currently studying Marine Engineering in the Lyceum of the Philippines International Maritime Academy (LIMA). I hail from the Eastern part of Nigeria, Enugu State.

2. How did it all start?
The art of “DJing” started as a joke; I had pre-information on how to use the beginner software (virtual DJ) courtesy of a friend. When I got to the Philippines there was no one to play for my “batch” parties/gatherings so I took up the challenge only because I knew how to use the software and had mixed about four songs (max) back in Nigeria as a joke with friends alike. One day it hit me, after several parties that I was good at it and had an actual passion for it because I used to love to be on the dance floor as a dancer being an alumni member of a theatre group by name Joyful Family Theatre Group (JFTG). It dawned on me that I no longer wanted to only dance but make people dance as well, this gave me greater joy. My career actually started off professionally when I attended a DJ master class because

you do not invest in something you don’t expect profit from.

A lot of DJs are self taught so I decided to add professional training to my “self taught” knowledge. My motivation was my passion.

3. Who can you point to as your mentor in the industry?
My mentors in the industry are David Guetta, Afrojack (my namesake) and Martin Garrix. One may wonder why my mentors are EDM (Electronic Dance Music) DJs since I am Nigerian, that’s because I am an aspiring EDM DJ.

4. Any mixtapes/shows you’ve played so far?
Well I just started in 2014 and from that time till now I’ve had four released mix tapes on my hulk share and sound cloud accounts.  Recently I performed at a major event marking the independence anniversary of Nigeria titled “Afro hip hop night” organized by Empire State Entertainment.

5. What inspires you?
There’s nothing specific that inspires my mix tapes so far, I just make mixes and people love them.

6. How do you balance being a creative & student?
Well it’s pretty easy, whatever that’s worth doing is worth doing well so I try to go to school well and I try to be a DJ well enough too. I do my creative work everywhere because it is a thing of the mind, like if an idea pops into my head, I just write it down somewhere in a jotter immediately and revisit it whenever I’m ready to work. (He’s making it sound so easy tsk )

7. Has being popular affected your lifestyle in anyway? I mean how do you keep it real?
I wouldn’t say I’m that popular, I would rather use the word “known” for the time being, but popularity doesn’t have to affect anything. If you’re real, you are and if not then that’s it.

8. Advice for peope looking to turn their hobbies into businesses?
First of all my financial advisor/consultant said “never mix personal income/money with business money”. If you can do this, every other thing would fall into place in a matter time.

*Even though i don’t think they do his work justice but heyy, check them out*

    Nice one girl.
“I try to go to school well and I try to be a dj well enough too” ehn someone would think it’s sleep he’s talking bout, making it sound just too easy.
Seriously Good job man, it’s not easy to balance it all out.
