dubai marina

Some time back while scrolling through my Instagram feed, I stumbled on a post by Relationship expert @Joroolumofin about a girl who is currently stuck in Dubai and needed advice on what to do. You know how the story starts in cases like this – she probably wanted to stunt for the gram/be a big girl like her ‘friends’ who have also been travelling to Dubai and ended up getting stuck there with a married man.

And as usual, my fellow Nigerians go off in the comment section and so many people were wondering what the craze is with Dubai that every Tom, Dick and Harry is trying to visit there. If you’re one of those people, let me enlighten you on what the craze is really all about? Continue reading this.

Reasons Why Everyone Should Visit Dubai

  1. It’s a Shoppers Heaven

dubai mall

I feel like this is almost stating the obvious but in case you don’t already know, shopping is synonymous to Dubai! Its home to the biggest shopping mall in the world (Dubai Mall) plus you can go shopping at almost any time of the day. Plus, you get to buy things at a cheaper rate compared to stores at home (Nigeria) that source their goods from there.

Quick story- I went with my family to Dubai around 2008 for vacation. On one of our shopping trips, we found a particular item that we had already bought from a store in Nigeria that retails goods from Dubai and to our shock the owner had sold it to us at almost 10 times the actual price she got it.

So kindly save your money and go get your retail therapy.

  1. It’s not that Expensive

Talking about saving your money, Dubai might be home to some of the most luxurious hotels in the world but depending on how much you’re willing to spend on yourself, you can definitely find something within your price range. If you’re trying to work within a specified budget, then I’ll advise to check ahead of your travel time for cheap flights to dubai and also reasonably priced hotels. This alone will save you so much cost. While in Dubai, take the metro instead of taxis (a lot of hotels offer this during summer months), take advantage of your hotels free shuttle service if they offer them, and eat at the food courts in malls (obviously the food will be cheaper). If you’re a shopper like me, don’t worry there are so many awesome bargains.

  1. Dubai has one of the most amazing skylines in the world.

burj khalifa dubai

There are a lot of skyscrapers in Dubai. Its home to the Burj Khalifa (the tallest man made structure on earth) so expect nothing less than an amazing view all through your stay. And of course, home to the world’s most luxurious hotel – The Burj Al Arab that stands on an artificial island and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge.

  1. The city is a foodies heaven

This is no surprise as the city is home to thousands of tourists. From Arab to Indian, Filipino, Japanese, American and even African Resturants, both humble and high-end, your food cravings will definitely be satisfied. Let’s not forget the food festivals that happen all year round and pop-up eateries as well. All you have to do is try not to put on so much weight.

  1. Desert adventures

If you’re the adventurous type, you can go surfing, the curious can go camel riding and those who prefer their air conditioned comfort can take a four-wheel drive safari tour. You’ll get to see animals you’ve most likely only read about or seen in movies such as camels and an onyx amongst others. You can also stay and watch the sun set over the dunes. There are also water parks, golf, river cruises, skiing (yep really), museums, a dolphinarium, horse racing and you could also book yourself onto a city tour to make sure you see the most amazing sights (there are a lot) in a short space of time.

So I’m not advising you to go with a married man or however wrong the case may be. Contrary to that, I’m telling you that Dubai is everything and more and it’s not that expensive so rather than putting yourself in a situation where you’ll get stuck, plan ahead, save and get yourself a cheap ticket to Dubai once you’re ready.

Have you been to Dubai before? What places did you visit?

I’ll love to read from you 🙂
